The Best Healthy Homemade Baby Food

>> Wednesday, June 23, 2010

We all want to give our kids the best healthy start in life, and this begins with the types of food we introduce them to at a young age. By having healthy food from the beginning we can build a strong foundation for a healthy life for our kids. Of course the best thing for baby's is their mother's milk, but once you are looking to introduce solids into their diet, rather than reaching for the baby formula, or jars of baby food, try these easy to make, healthy alternatives instead.

For the very first thing you feed your baby, it is recommended that you choose one type of fruit, mashed to a fine paste. You don't want to overwhelm your baby's delicate digestive system first off, so try a mash of pear, papaya or even a buttermilk squash as the very first healthy homemade baby food as these are all extremely easy on the stomach. Once you have tried a number of different fruits, you can move onto cereals, vegetables and even broths.

Tips For Cooking Homemade

Baby Food

Some simple recipes for homemade baby food include lightly boiling carrots and potatoes and making a mash from them - making sure to include the nutrient-rich water used for boiling to make a thin mash that baby will love. Mashing a banana into a thin porridge is also a great homemade baby food - but remember that because your baby is just learning to eat, keep mashes thin, uncomplicated and importantly without any added salts or sugars.

Once they are a little older you can always make your mash with the added inclusion of some organic chicken, so that the broth gets all the nutrients from the chicken, but your baby doesn't have to actually eat the meat. Try to avoid any foods that are known to cause wind, like onions and garlic and keep away from pulses for a while. Broccoli and cauliflower are also gassy foods, so these can be left till later on.

The best thing about making your own baby food at home is that you know exactly what you are feeding your baby, you get to give them the freshest, healthiest options, and it is really no trouble at all - especially if you make two or three day's worth of food at one time.
